With "paperconfig", you can set the papersize system-wide.

Since Xubuntu 20.04 came out, the built in SimpleScan utility, now called Document Scanner, has been giving me headaches with its new layout. The one that really eludes me is the paper size preference. I found, to my delight, that I can set the Preference for paper size to Letter (8 1/2" x 11") and get letter-sized scans from the sheet feeder, instead of the "automatic," which is always legal sized even when the paper is not. I figured this would be a great default setting since I almost always use Letter-sized paper, until I scanned a single page - scanned the letter sized paper just fine, but the scanned image has 3" of black at the bottom to fill out the difference between letter and legal sized. WTF??? If it's set for Letter sized paper, why isn't that good enough for both the platen scan and the feeder scan? If not, what does "Preference" mean? It's really annoying, and I'm wondering if anyone knows why, or to whom to raise this issue if not here? Thanks. Mark
