Hello there,

I recently upgraded my XUbuntu 20.04 LTS to 22.04 LTS.

I have been using XUbuntu for a long time, more than 10 years.  I use Emacs all the time for all sort of things, I write in French I'd say 90% of the time, so accentuated letters are important to me.  Since the update, Emacs won't write accentuated letters any more?

The weird thing is when I run Emacs as root, no problem; so I thought the problem was in my emacs init file, so I ran Emacs as a regular user with no init file, same problem?

This machine is un dual boot with Debian, under Debian, no problem, Emacs as access to the same init file on both OS.

I checked the "/etc/default/locale" file in Debian and made the Xubuntu one identical.  It helped a little, I now have the date in the calendar in French, it was in English before.  The login screen was and still is in French.

I don't know where to look anymore to get this to work and I don't want to run as root all the time.

Any suggestions?

Thanks a lot,

Gérald
