The switch to mostly snaps could be smoother
This raises a big issue. I want to avoid snap packages. Is there a way to
ensure that this will be the case and force the use of deb packages?

Is there a list of packages that are being switched to snap? After all
these years, the Firefox snap package STILL doesn't work if you have a
non-standard HOME directory -- and I do. I'm not interested in finding out
what else won't work.

Disabling all non-ubuntu PPA ...
Yes, I expect that. That has been SOP for a long time.

Thanks to everyone who responded so far. Keep those cards and letters
coming in! :-)
