I've switched to Debian+XFCE

Plain straight version, or Xebian?

Debian net-installer and choosing XFCE instead of Gnome.

I have recently been evaluating MX Linux (which again is Debian +
Xfce, but with more helpful tools, smaller and faster) and Alpine
Linux with Xfce.

MX is much easier than Debian and it's faster too.

Alpine is tiny. It takes about as much space on disk as Ubuntu takes
RAM, and it boots in seconds even on a Core 2 Duo... but quite a lot
of normal modern Linux things do not work.

I have not considered those options to be honest. However, there are no complaints about speed of Debian from my side. Tuning XFCE is a bit odd, but I ended up with exactly the same look and feel as Xubuntu. I have to migrate VirtualBox to KVM in time but found proper Debian support for the meantime. No snaps...What a relief! It feels less bloated someway. For example, Firefox and Thunderbird are ESR and that is fine with me.
