Thanks for your reply. As it says in the openprinting link "If you use this entry to set up your printer, note that not all features of your printer will be supported and that the options offered to you do not all necessarily apply to your printer." That's the trouble. A generic printer driver is exactly that. I got the 24 pin one to work but does not allow for whether it is a wide carriage or narrow carriage model. One of my test printer pages print to wide carriage. CUPS have done a revamp and cut out many printers they used to support. The LX-350 does not work on the 9 pin. CUPS used to list the LQ-300 and LX-300 - iirc all Epson printers which they have now cut. Pleased to say that i saved a ppd from years back and done a search on my spare hard drive and found it. NO - printers do not work on wine. Wine is for running windows software and any printing has to be done to an internal pdf which can then be printed out back on Xubuntu. Trouble is wine doesn't seem to work on Xubuntu 24.04. james -- xubuntu-users mailing list xubuntu-users@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/xubuntu-users
