Hi, Matt Diephouse and Brett Estrade have kicked off the Perl XUL Project chartered to create a Perl module that allows you to define UIs in XML and lets you choose your UI toolkit (such as Tk, Gtk, or WxWindows).
On the Perl XUL Project Wiki Wiki Matt and Brett write: Why? ---- Because Perl application developers should have an "XUL motor" of their own. What are the goals of this project? ----------------------------------- The goal is to create a Perl module that can be used as an XUL motor for various windowing tool kits. There will be a core set of toolkits available for use, but an easy to use plugin API will allow for additional toolkits to be added. The M-V-C (model-control-view) paradigm of user interfaces will be the primary focus, but that is not to say it will be the only one. Lastly, it is one of the tenents of this project to make this as dependency free as possible. What is the current state of the project? ----------------------------------------- We are currently in the planning stage. We are designing the overall framework, plug-in API, and evaluating different approaches to solve this seemingly monumental task. Inspiration for the design ranges from Gaim's plug-in interface to currently available XUL motors such as Thinlet, a tiny XUL motor written in Java. PHP based XUL servers, Javascript to connect with the PHP server, and PHP to send XML to XUL are the main components. Also a testbed for larger PHP & XUL projects. ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by: SF.net Giveback Program.
