Here's my take on it. Any other comments are more than welcome. XBL stands either for XML Binding Language or Extensible Binding Language. Please, check out the mozilla.org website if you can dig up anything about this monstrosity. In a nutshell XBL lets you define XUL plugins in a language independent way. It's a sort of IDL for XUL. XBL is a disaster because who's going to write all this meta-data XBL definitions for XUL tags/plugins?
