Hi Gerald,

Wow! Sorry to hear you got banned from the Yahoo! XAML group. I'd like to
post my responses on my blog, but I'd like to get your permission first.
Here they are:

> First off MyXAML is NOT XAML.

Well, what *is* XAML? I've heard a few definitions, but the one that sticks
in my mind is "eXtensible Application Markup Language". Another one I've
heard is "Xml Application Markup Language".

Anyways, who/what defines what XAML is? Is it Microsoft? Currently,
Avalon-XAML isn't set in stone.

> Why would you call it MyXAML when it is not XAML?

Why isn't MyXaml XAML? It certainly fits the definition of the acronym.

> Why would you mislead people into thinking what you are doing is using the
XAML syntax?

First off, I don't think anybody is trying to mislead. Second, the "form"
of the markup adheres strictly with the concepts of using markup in a
declarative and extensible manner. In fact, I would be so bold to say that
MyXaml is much more compliant with "pure" XAML because I don't pull any
tricks like Microsoft does with their markup.

> You even go so far as to use an XAML file extension.

Who is the "you" in this? If you're talking about MyXaml, I use the .myxaml
extension!

> Why would you post samples under C# >> .NET >> XAML in CodeProject when
you are NOT using the XAML syntax?

This one had me rolling on the floor. Who created the XAML subsection on
the Code Project? I did!!! (I'm an editor for CP, if anyone didn't know
that).

But more to the point, I view "XAML" as a generic thing. Microsoft has one
implementation. There are a lot of others.

> Why would you waste your time?

Hmmm. Well, maybe the people who have downloaded the beta version?

> The world will obviously divide into those using REAL XAML and those using
SVG with RCC and XForms.

What "world" are we talking about? That's a pretty narrow division. "Real"
XAML isn't even available yet. It supports .NET only as a kluge of
namespace tags.

> A proprietary format, open source or otherwise, won't fly.

LOL. If we want to talk about proprietary formats, we have only to look at
Microsoft's implementation and one of my favorite subjects, the VisualTree.
MyXaml is almost a 100% generic format because it is based entirely on the
underlying assembly namespace, class, and property names. There is only one
instance of a "proprietary" format (borrowed from Microsoft's
implementation, actually!) and there are a bunch of additional classes that
extend the .NET classes, which you can use or not.

> Anyone even slightly thinking of using such a solution needs their heads
examined.

Funny, I feel the same way about Avalon-XAML.

Personally, I think Ron is unhappy with the presence of MyXaml. What he and
other people consistently seem to forget is that it's just a parser. You
can write one in about a week. What's important is the value-added features
and services that are provided along with the parser.

Marc

Hello,

I just got banned from the Yahoo! XAML group by Ron
DeSerranno (who leads the Mobiform XAML project) for
posting about MyXaml.

Allow me to repost Ron's answer to my post titled
"Anybody tried MyXaml? Comments?". It might enlighten
some Mozilla folks on the list.

   Here we go:

<ron>
Yes, I have some comments

First off MyXAML is NOT XAML. It is a nice piece of
work but it is not even remotely close to XAML. This
begs a number of questions

1) Why would you call it MyXAML when it is not XAML?
2) Why would you mislead people into thinking what you
are doing is using the XAML syntax? You even go so far
as to use an XAML file extension. Why would you post
samples under C# >> .NET >> XAML in CodeProject when
you are NOT using the XAML syntax?
3) Why would you waste your time? The world will
obviously divide into those using REAL XAML and those
using SVG with RCC and XForms. A proprietary format,
open source or otherwise, won't fly. Anyone even
slightly thinking of using such a solution needs their
heads examined.

This newsgroup is for the XAML syntax. Any postings
regarding MyXAML will be considered spam and be
deleted.

Any comments from the Mozilla crowd? Does anybody
want to comment on what is REAL XAML or REAL XUL?

  - Gerald
