You don't mention what graphics are in your laptop, so I don't
know if it's the same issue, but...

Several of us have noticed the recently added DRI support makes
the ATI Radeon x700 in the Ferrari 4000 laptops much slower than
before - simply adding the Option "DRI" "False" line to the driver
section of /etc/X11/xorg.conf cured it.

(If you're running the default of no xorg.conf, you can create one
 by killing the current desktop with "svcadm gdm disable", logging
 in on the command line, running "/usr/X11/bin/Xorg -configure" and
 then moving /root/xorg.conf.new to /etc/X11/xorg.conf and editing
 it - adding "pfexec" to those commands where needed if not logged
 in as root.   Once it's in place, "svcadm gdm enable ; exit" to
 switch back from command line to gui login.)
