[xwin-discuss] how to exit x-window?

hi, all, could you tell me how to quit x-window to console mode? 
because i am working on kernel module debugging, so some time, i need to 
use console mode from x-window. some one tell me press ctrl+alt+backspace to 
exit x, but this method lead me to graphic login session.
