I've already mentioned these to the person working on Xorg for Schillix,
but if anyone else is interested in seeing the changes we make to Xorg 6.9
on Solaris to autodetect keyboard layouts from the kernel keyboard setting
(which can be autoprobed from USB keyboards like those from Sun & Apple that
support the optional feature of the USB HID standard to provide country code,
but not from most commodity PC keyboards), or to the XKB data files for all
the different layouts, I've posted them to the X.Org bug database as:

Layout detection: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6018
XKB data files: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5725

Figuring out how much of these should be merged upstream to X.Org itself is
a perennial todo list item no one has had a chance to tackle yet.

(Free bonus code - the SolarisIA extension for adjusting the priority of
X clients based on whether or not they have focus in the window system
was posted a while ago to https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2192 )
