Unfortunately, this area is complicated by having the support split across different groups, split by both geography and org charts. I can tell you that for the group I work in, our strategy is to pass through as many of the Xorg drivers, both graphics & input device, as we can - even though we don't know if they'll be used or even in some cases if they work. (Sorry to burst anyone's bubble, but I've never plugged in a 3dfx card or rendition card to find out if those Xorg drivers work - having not gotten bug reports, I can only assume either no one else has either, in which case they're not hurting anything and may help someone someday, or that they work well enough for those few users who may still have them.) But our group only handles the 2-D drivers from Xorg - the kernel/driver groups have higher requirements, including much more extensive testing, and since they handle the kernel drivers needed for 3-D, things like the ATI DRI driver are up to them. I can tell you they support well the devices from the two vendors who work closely with us (Intel & Nvidia), but so far, the rudimentary ATI R300 DRI module and RageXL suspend/resume module is all they have for devices from other vendors, and I don't know if/when they'll get more. -- -Alan Coopersmith- alan.coopersmith at sun.com Sun Microsystems, Inc. - X Window System Engineering
