Here's another issue (?):
On an ASUS N4L-VM DH mainboard with integrated Intel video...
pci bus 0x0000 cardnum 0x02 function 0x00: vendor 0x8086 device 0x27a2
Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS, 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics
Controller
... and a 1600x1200 Iiyama DFP connected to the mainboard's VGA
connector the 1600x1200 resolution isn't used any more in the default
configuration (no /etc/X11/xorg.conf exists). It's using 1024x768 resolution.
Gnome screenres shows two monitors, "Laptop" and "Idek Iiyama 20" "
and the "mirror screens" option is checked. I can uncheck the "mirror
screens" option and apparently the "laptop" screen is limited to
1024x768, while the external Iiyama DTP was recognized to support
1600x1200 (and more). Problem is that I can't seem to use the screen
res applet to change the resolution to 1600x1200 - no matter what
I do in the screen res gui, it remains at 1024x768.
With the Xorg from SX:CE snv_104, the "mirror screens" option was
unchecked in the auto-detected configuration, and the "Idek Iiyama 20" "
screen defaulted to 1600x1200 mode.
Xorg log files (old and new) are attached...
The main different appears to be this:
Old Xorg:
(II) intel(0): Output VGA connected
(II) intel(0): Output LVDS connected
(II) intel(0): Output TV disconnected
(II) intel(0): Output VGA using initial mode 1600x1200
(II) intel(0): Output LVDS using initial mode 1024x768
New Xorg:
(II) intel(0): Output VGA connected
(II) intel(0): Output LVDS connected
(II) intel(0): Output TV disconnected
(II) intel(0): Output VGA using initial mode 1024x768
(II) intel(0): Output LVDS using initial mode 1024x768
