The OpenSolaris election process starts in about a month, and thus now is a good time for us to review who from the X Window System community should have contributor & core contributor status.
Under the OpenSolaris constitution, there are 3 main levels of participation: 1) Participant - automatically granted to everyone who registers on OpenSolaris.org or joins a mailing list. 2) Contributor - granted by a community group such as ours, permanently recognizing someone who has "substantively contributed toward accomplishing the tasks of that Community Group". 3) Core Contributor - granted by a community group such as ours, recognizing that someone is currently "an active and sustained contributor" - grant lasts for 2 years and may be renewed by the community upon expiration. Contributions may be in any form recognized by the community, including coding, helping users on mailing lists, writing documentation, etc. In terms of the elections, any Participant, Contributor or Core Contributor can run for the OGB, but only Core Contributors can nominate people for the OGB elections or vote in them. The current list for the X community is: Core Contributors: alanc Alan Coopersmith Expires 2009-02-24 jacotton Jay Cotton Expires 2009-02-24 skk Stuart Kreitman Expires 2009-02-24 Contributors: bochnig Martin Bochnig moinakg Moinak Ghosh Anyone who is a Participant already is eligible to become a Contributor or Core Contributor if the existing Core Contributors vote to add them (approval requires at least 3 votes in favor, and no votes against). For our community, the primary areas of activity are the FOX project, and the xwin-discuss mailing list, but those are not the only areas to which contributions can be made. So if you've read this far, now comes the question - who should we name as a Contributor or Core Contributor for our community group? I'll take nominations for the next week, and then ask the three existing Core Contributors to vote, and ask the nominees if they wish to accept (it's up to them to accept, we can't force it on them). To start the ball rolling, I nominate: - For his work on Xorg drivers for SPARC systems, Martin Bochnig for Core Contributor - For his work on the FOX packages for Indiana and in filling in the missing pieces of the FOX gate, Moinak Ghosh for Core Contributor - For his work in helping users with Xorg configuration & nvidia driver issues on xwin-discuss, solarisx86 and various other forums, John M. Martin as Contributor Who else should we nominate? (you don't have to be a contributor to ask us to consider yourself or anyone else - just send mail either to me directly or to the list) -- -Alan Coopersmith- alan.coopersmith at sun.com Sun Microsystems, Inc. - X Window System Engineering
