This week's putback of Xorg 1.10 and associated modules to the xnv-gate
constitutes a flag day for those using packages built from this source tree
(either when integrated into Oracle's Nevada development releases or for
those who are building from our sources for other distros).
Since Xorg 1.10 once again changes the Xorg driver module ABI incompatibly,
all drivers need to be updated to work with it. Drivers for most supported
devices are updated in the X gate & packages as part of this changeset, but
some are delivered from other places so have to be updated separately.
Specifically:
- Nvidia graphics:
- For recent GPU's (G4x family and above, 2005+), the required driver
should be integrated into the same development build of the Oracle WOS
as this putback. For those doing pre-integration testing, or building
their own distros, 270.41.06 is the minimum required.
- For those who have to manually install legacy drivers for older hardware:
For G3x GPUs, minimum driver is 173.14.30.
For G2x and earlier GPUs, minimum driver is 96.43.xx (xx and availability
is TBD).
To install the SVR4 packages for one of these other driver versions on an
IPS-based system, see the instructions in comments #5, 6 and 10 of:
https://defect.opensolaris.org/bz/show_bug.cgi?id=12196
- efb driver for SPARC XVR-50, XVR-100 & XVR-300 frame buffers:
- Nothing special needed, as the required update is provided in this putback,
now that the efb module for Xorg delivers from the X gate.
- kfb driver for SPARC XVR-2500 frame buffer:
- For users of Oracle development builds, an announcement will be made
internally soon about a kfb Xorg module update to work with Xorg 1.10.
Unfortunately, these updates are not currently available to those
building their own distros.
- VirtualBox
- The VirtualBox guest additions drivers will need to be updated to work with
Xorg 1.10 on Solaris. These updates are typically delivered in new releases
of the VirtualBox software.
