Stock Android Gingerbread shows a red badge with the number of messages over the icon. I don't know what HTC's done with its software (ugh, stupid manufacturers). That said, Honeycomb and ICS don't appear to show this badge either, so we should probably do something else to our notification icon as well. -Steven Luo
