$ kill 1234 where 1234 is the PID (process identifier) For pausing and resuming, you might try kill -STOP 1234 and kill -CONT 1234 though I never tested that (http://tombuntu.com/index.php/2007/11/23/how-to-pause-a-linux-process/) If you pause the simulation, though, it will not free allocated cores and the scheduler will not run the next one in queue.
