There are all distribution in the PPA, the version must distinguish them in some way and this is the most obvious (I think).
Another thing: try to avoid uploading source package as much as possible. I was not really successful at that, but ideally all 0.50 packages (includeing 0.50.2 etc) should use yade-0.50.orig.tar.gz and put the rest in the diff. debuild -sa or -sd creates the upload with/without the source, which should be uploaded only once. Congrats for the successful 0.50 maverick build.
