Thanks for all your help Janek, but I'm going to abandon this project for
now (will come back to it later) and try to get yade to run on a live cd of
Knoppix 5.1, however it seems that I'm running into the same problems as I
did with SUSE10.2

It looks like you are running 32bit system and trying to install
an .rpm package for 64bit system. Isn't it the case?
Please try to install an .rpm dedicated for 32bit system.
