Question #228175 on Yade changed: https://answers.launchpad.net/yade/+question/228175
Anton Gladky proposed the following answer: 2013/5/5 Bruno Chareyre <[email protected]>: >>"I guess that the core team does not want it in the main branch (at least for >>now) because CUDA is Nvidia specific and as far as I know not open source." > > OpenCL is another possibility for open source code. But anyway, if > somebody is going to write a collider class working on CUDA and if it > really gives a boost, I'm sure we will find a convenient way to share it > somehow, even if it is not included in the base yade package. It is not really a problem to have a code, which is dependent on non-free components. It must not be a mandatory for Yade compilation. In other words, it should be implemented like a new "feature", In this case we can easily switch it off for "free"-builds.
