Nova doesn't support custom image metadata properties. Creating the
ImageMeta object with the list of supported properties is a way to
codify what's actually known in the ecosystem between nova and glance
and what nova supports. Anyone working on nova that needs to get
something in to this list needs to be proposing it upstream, else you're
stuck with forking that code and adding your own values and dealing with
the complications that come with maintaining forked code.

Title:
image_api.get() in nova ignores custom properties of images.

Status in OpenStack Compute (nova):
  Won't Fix

Bug description:
ImageMeta.from_dict() in nova.objects.image_meta.py only parse two type of
key/value,
  _set_attr_from_legacy_name
  _set_attr_from_current_name

any custom properties will be ignored.
I'm writing a new type of virt.driver, and want to use custom properties, but
compute.manager.py pass image_meta from ImageMeta.from_dict(), no way to get
these custom properties.
