One sure way to fix it is to use Microsoft/s Autoruns utility to delete the Messenger (or YPager) item under the Login tab: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/utilities/Autoruns.mspx
The AT&T is a pure marketing/branding thing.
