Linda,

You must have clicked the link for the 90 day trial of Windows One Care
(WOC), instead of the FREE online scanner that WOC also provides. WOC is a
new product service that MS is offering that is a security suite, that has a
firewall, anti-virus, anti-spyware, computer maintenance, tune-ups and hard
drive backup... all in one (which I do not recommend since most "suites" are
resource hogs... including the one you may be using.. Norton.) I've never
used WOC so I can't say anything good or bad about it. WOC is the sponsor
that "pays" for the Live Safety Center FREE Online Scan, as a way to promote
their product/service.

Here is the link that I use every week and the page still looks the same
when I opened it just now. http://safety.live.com/site/en-us/default.htm
although I noticed that it now redirects to another URL,
http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/default.htm, but still the same page and
FREE online scan.

On that page, top right, is the "Ad" for WOC 90 day free trial. Top Middle
is the column for the "Get a FREE PC Safety Scan" and about 1/2 way down the
page, in that column, there is the BOX for "FULL SERVICE SCAN". That is the
button you want to click. That will then activate an active-X download,
which is the small applet that will scan your computer. After you "Run"
that, it will open a new smaller window where you will have the option to do
a quick scan of full scan... choose the full scan.

You must stay online during this scan because the applet will load the new
scan definitions each time you use it. It will then go through the process
of downloading the definitions (or whatever they call them). Then it will
scan your computer for all malware. Then it will fix them. Then it will go
through your registry and fix and registry errors. Then it will remove any
junk and temp files bogging up your computer. Last but not least, it will
give you the option to report the findings to MS. You do not have to do
this but I always do to help MS make the product better. I'm not paranoid,
like some, about MS being Big Brother. ;)

Hope this helps.

Lenny,

I thought I would try downloading that program to check out my
computer. It was almost finished downloading when a message popped
up telling me there was a program on my computer that was conflicting
with the downloaded and it wanted to remove it. The program was my
Norton which I just updated last week. I cancelled the download.

Also this security program said it was a free trial for 90 days. Do
they charge if you want to keep it longer.
