If you go into your preferences from the Messenger Menu, on the General
Menu, there is a box for "Open Web Links In A New Browser Window". I keep
that checked. I'm not sure if that is causing your problems.

If it does not work, here is the process for starting off with a clean
install of YM.

Uninstall your existing version. Using Windows Explorer or your preferred
method, browse to C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Messenger\Profiles\(your user
names) and move the contents of that folder to your desktop or some other
place where you can easily find it or them if you have multiple user
profiles.

Then reboot your computer.

Then browse back to the \Messenger\ folder and delete the entire folder and
everything in it... if anything is left. Or if you don't want to delete it
all, at least move the entire ...\Messenger\ folder to your desktop or other
area.

Then reboot your computer. Run a registry cleaner. I use WinASO.com FREE
Registry Optimizer. It only cleans 10 items with each scan in the FREE
version so you may have to do multiple scans to clean up your registry
completely. After doing it completely the first time, you can do it weekly
after that and it won't be as bad. I've been using the FREE version for
years with no problems. I really should part with some money one day and
buy the thing but it works fine for me in the FREE mode.

After the registry cleaner says your registry is clean, reboot the computer
again. Then go to oldversion.com at
http://www.oldversion.com/program.php?n=yahoo and download version 7.5...
There are still a lot of complaints going around about version 8.0 but if
you want it, go to http://messenger.yahoo.com and download it there.
Reinstall it. You will then have to move your profile folders back to their
proper place in the Yahoo!\Messenger\ folder. Start YM back up and you
should be good to go. Then go through your Preferences Menu and "customize"
YM to your settings.

If YM does not work after all that, there may be some software issues with
your Windows OS causing DLL issues, etc.

2. Links Not Working

Links in my IM have stopped working. Links for Mail and to Profiles don't
work. When I'm in a chat room, I can't view profiles by choosing "Profiles"
from a right mouse click.

Anyone else have these problems?
Anyone know of any fixes?

I've tried to uninstall and re-install IM. But the links remain broken. If
I access IM from another computer, the links work.

Thanks,
Jerry
