My personal thoughts is that YM is trying to be too much for too many. No other single FREE program that I know of is attempting to work on every possible configuration of computer that is out there. I personally think YM does a pretty good job of working with all of the features that it has compared to other IM programs. Could they have better tech support? Of course, but for a FREE program, that is used and abused as much as YM is, it does a pretty good job. Just like with Microsoft, because it is the best and biggest IM program, it is also the subject and victim of attacks by hackers and spammers.
The bigger thing that I am "sick and tired" of the MULTITUDES of people who are still getting on the internet with unsecured computers that become zombies to hackers who then use the hacked computers to send the billions of spams, spims, bots, viruses, trojans and malware to the rest of us. We are forced to have to spend countless hours keeping our computers secure from these irresponsible computer owners. Every day, I help at least one friend of family member clean up and upgrade their security on their computer. Each and every person that I deal with on a daily basis has a very, very unsecured computer with dozens of malware programs on their computers. IMO, it's these irresponsible computer owners, getting on the internet that are probably causing YM so many problems as well. For example, how many of the spam-bots in the chat rooms are actually being operated by hacked and zombied computers? There are so many FREE anti-virus programs, firewalls, anti-spyware programs, etc., that there should not be a single unsecured computer in any home or office any where in the world... but the owners of these computers are too damned lazy or ignorant to even do anything about their unsecured computers. I come across these people every day... and I'm not a computer tech person. I'm just someone who is willing to help these people secure their computers and try to teach them to be more responsible. These are people who usually have the brains and wallets to spend money on their computers but fail to do so for what ever reason(s). I spend a couple of hours cleaning and securing their computers and then make myself available to answer their questions to try and get them to continue with their security updates. In conclusion, while I am certainly willing to try and get YM to do a better job by commenting on their blog... with this same exact reply... I also think that every one who comments on their blog should also look in the mirror and make sure their computers are not part of the problem. Also... help at least one friend or family member secure their computer. For the most part, it is these hacked and zombied computers that are causing the multitudes of problems for YM and every other user of the internet. Here is what I use for FREE. AVG FREE Anti-virus, Zone-Alarm or Comodo FREE Firewall, Windows-Defender FREE Anti-Spyware, Spy-Bot Search & Destroy FREE, Ad-Aware FREE, Spyware Blaster FREE and then the countless number of FREE online security scans, including the Windows Live Safety Center scan listed in my signature. I KNOW it's not the best one out there but it's simple and a start. It will check for and clean up any malware, check for firewall breaches, clean-up and defrag their hard drive... all at NO CHARGE. They should start with cleaning their computers, using the free "cleaners" above, then updating their computers with critical security patches from Microsoft Update... and then keeping their then clean and secured computers updated and run daily or at least weekly security scans on their computers to make sure they stay secure.
