Your contact list is maintained on Yahoo's servers so you can use your YM on
any computer.

Your chat archives are kept on your own computer as files so you don't have
to worry about anyone else getting easy access to them if you ever have your
Yahoo account hacked or phished.

Your message history (archives) is kept on your computer. If you
still have
your old computer, you may be able to transfer the file but I'm not
sure how
well things will go from 98 to Vista. I haven't used 98 in well... a
long
time.. lol.. but this is where you can find your archives..

        C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Messenger\Profiles\(your yahoo ID)\Archive

You may be able to make a copy of the entire "Profile" folder and
then
transfer it to your new computer... IF the new version of YM is
compatible
with the older version you had on 98.. or rather the file management
system
on Vista. If your YM program and archives are in the same place on
Vista,
        then it may work.

This might be something that the file transfer wizard is capable of
doing to
transfer all of your old files from your old computer to your new
computer.
Check with where you purchased your computer to see if they will
provide
this service... or you can just do it manually using a USB thumb
drive or
        CD's.

Hello and thank you for allowing me to join this group. I am not a
PC
wizard and wondered if someone can help me.

I recently purchased a new PC (went from Windows 98 to VISTA)....I
downloaded the Yahoo IM and my contact list came over but not the
message
        history.

My question is, how can I get the message history onto my new PC??

        Thank you in advance....
