Are you entering the correct Yahoo ID and password? Is YM blocked from internet access by a firewall? Gosh, there could be a million reasons. Give us more info.
Or it could be Yahoo Server problems. I noticed last night that my YM signed out but it does that on occasion and I was getting off the computer anyhow so I didn't worry about it. Just now, I tried to sign in and it's not signing in either so it's likely Yahoo Server issues. Whenever this happens, always manually re-enter your Yahoo ID and Password as I've seen the occasional problem where it will sign out and then pop-up while you are typing something else and depending on your computer settings, your cursor could jump to one of the fields on the YM sign in window and you could inadvertently type in one or more characters into one of the fields so when you click "Sign In", it won't let you.
