Actually, if a group of underage "friends" want to get together and chat,
they can set up a "Conference" using Yahoo Messenger so there is no need for
them to go into a chat room anyhow. Under the "Actions" menu on YM, there
is a menu option, "Invite To Conference" where they can then pick certain
people from their friends list and start up the conference. Others can
leave or be added and it's like a mini-chat room without the unknown people
using mics or cams, etc.

Quite simply, there is no reason in the world why I would let my teenage
daughter roam around the internet setting up profiles, posting pictures,
etc... whether for Yahoo Chat, MySpace, etc., etc., etc.

I also agree that a teen only site that has chat rooms would just make it
easier for the kids to be exploited.

I've seen parents let their tweens and younger kids set up MySpace accounts
and lie about their age so they can be able to have open access on MySpace.
I know the parents are letting their kids do this because I see the parents
listed as a "friend" so the parents can clearly see their kids MySpace
account and see their little girl is lying about her age saying she's 16
when she might only be 12-13. These types of parents should be sterilized,
IMO.

There are programs such as Net Nanny and many others where parents can take
control of the computers and limit where their kids can go... just like in
the real world. Parents should ask where their kids are going whenever they
leave the house... they should also ask and verify where their kids are
going on the net.

Teen only chats, thats like chumming the water for sharks to a pedophile,
don't you think they will make fake profiles age wise to get in them too?

        Andre,
I just went to yahoo chat, It states right there a whole paragraph
on the left of your screen, in plain english (I might add,) that you MUST be
18 to enter yahoo chatrooms. And, on top of that Yahoo chat now has a new
page u must go through to get into rooms to verify your age, Did she lie on
her application to get into chat rooms? Everytime I go into a chatroom I
have to go to a website to verify my age is 18 or older in order to get in.
I am wondering how she got past yahoo's security updates in chatroom sites.
But, I do think your idea of a different site for teenage chatrooms is a
good one as these are suposed to be adult only rooms at yahoo anyway.
