WOW... excellent questions. Unfortunately, I don't have any excellent
answers. LOL

As far as your third question about the history in the drop down menu when
you first type a letter, many programs use different types of files for this
feature. MS-Outlook uses a .nk2 file so that when you start to type an
email address, Outlook will offer all options starting with that letter. IE
(Internet Explorer) calls it autocomplete or the History list and it's easy
to clear. Now, as far as YM... I have never seen a way to clear out that
log. I even just now went into the Yahoo! Messenger Program folder and
looked through files that have been modified in the past day on my own
computer and opened every file that I was not sure of what it was looking at
it with Notepad trying to find a file with a list of names but found
nothing. I'm sure it exists but I'm just not sure where at. If you
absolutely have to get rid of it, I would have to tell you to uninstall YM,
clean the registry, go into the C:\Program Files and move your Profile
folder so you'll save your chat archives. Then clean the registry again.
Then reinstall YM from the full version. After it's installed, while it's
not logged in yet, you can move the Profile folder back into place so you'll
still have your archives. Open up YM and see if that saved your archives
while getting rid of the history. I have a long blog article on "How I
ALWAYS do a clean install of YM"
http://lennyvasbinder.blogspot.com/2007/11/how-i-always-do-clean-instal-ofl-
yahoo.html that will add to the above short instructions. I wrote it back
in 2007 but it's still applicable today although the versions mentioned have
changed.

As to your first paragraph, I also use 8.1x. I don't consider it an old
version but rather the last version that worked halfway decent. I only
started using 8.1 in the past six months and used 7.5x up until then. I
concur that 9.0x have been riddled with probs for many users. Since you did
try version 9.0x, you should probably do the uninstall and registry cleanup
mentioned above and then reinstall a FULL version of 8.1x. Hopefully that
will fix things.

As far as paragraph two, I think the above fixes should also fix that. I
really suspect a bad single or series of .dll files that might have been
left over from 9.0x or other versions or corrupted .dll files from your most
recent install of 8.1x, especially if you used Yahoo to download it from.

Your other option is to call Yahoo directly and try to get through to their

Subject: [Y!M] Hi :o)

This is my first post so hi to all and thanks in advance for listening to me
whine about yahoo messenger lol

The first problem I'm having (I have an older version btw, it's 8.1
something not the new version which for me just really messed up everything)
each time I log in I need to remain invisible or it will sign me out. It
doesn't matter if I try to unstealth for just one person or go available to
all it signs me out.. this just started in the last 3 days and is very
annoying. I can still log in and use it but I need to invisible to do it
*shrugs*

The second problem is, I have my settings to save archives.. and keep them,
not just save until I log out but it isn't saving anything. I keep checking
the setting and it's set to save them (first button) but it isn't doing it.
This also has been only recently and I have lost some (not all) of my old
archives which is a bummer. Could I maybe have something going on on my pc
that is deleting this stuff when I log off that has nothing to do with
yahoo??? Some kind of history deleting thing or privacy thing? I use Mozilla
firefox and McAfee virus but I always have with no problems... any clue
here??

The last thing is a question.. I'm trying to figure out how to delete my
search history from the messenger. I'm talking about the little box you can
type ID's and things in that has a drop-down that shows all your IM's, sms
and things.. can you clear that? I haven't found an option for it.

I appreciate your help.. sorry this is so long
