If this just happened, you may be able to "Recuva" the files. We recently had a thread on this same situation and the member was able to "Recuva" most if not all of their chat archives. I use the word "Recuva" as that is the name of a free program from Piriform (the makers of the very popular CCleaner program) and if you lost these files recently, it should find them.
Here's the thread from last month which will walk you through the process. http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/Yahoo_Messenger/message/6534 But yes, I agree that YM should "remember" your previous settings so that when you install a new version it will keep the same settings you had previously... BUT IT DOESN'T. The first thing one should do when installing ANY new program, whether YM or any other, is go through and make sure all of the settings are the way they want them to be. As far as telling Yahoo! Inc., here's their contact info: Yahoo! I use Yahoo Messenger to talk with my parents and friends in America and I live in China. I had MONTHS of archived messages in Yahoo messenger. Then I installed the new version of Yahoo and the DEFAULT setting (UNKNOWN to me) was Keep messages until log out then delete archive!!!! So, now I have lost lots MONTHS of messages. I wish they would put a message when installing that the default storage has been set to delete after closing. So, if we have archives we want to keep, we need to change the default BEFORE using this new version. How can we tell Yahoo about this? Do you all agree with me on this? Hopefully if lots of people complain they MIGHT listen? Thanks, Markis
