Well, the downside of staying invisible all of the time is that some folks,
like me, keep their friends list set to ONLY show those friends who are
online so if someone is invisible, I might not think about sending, what
might be an offline hello that they might never get. If both parties chose
to stay invisible all of the time, then neither would ever know each other
were on and the old adage, "out of sight, out of mind" might come into play,
unless one of the people decides to take a chance and send an IM to the
other even though they appear to be offline.

Now, all that said, I do keep YM set to sign in as invisible so that I can
sign in while I'm still doing email, etc., and not have to worry about
getting a bunch of IM's while I'm in the middle of other things.

Now... if you suspect a certain person (or many) might be stalking you when
you're online, you can *act* like you are going to send them an IM by typing
in their Yahoo ID (if you still remember it) and open a new IM window but
instead of typing them an IM, choose the Actions Menu on that window, then
the fly out menu for Contact Options, then the Stealth Settings fly out menu
and choose "Appear permanently offline...".

Last but not least, if someone is definitely harassing you, then under the
Help Menu, choose "Report Abuse" and report them.

Thanks for that. It's something I never thought about. Wish I had belonged
to this group years ago b/c there's probably a lot of people out there now
that I've deleted who still see me online and have passed me on to others to
create a spam menagerie. I guess the safest way to be online is to always
sign in as invisible and stay there. I have x friends who I've deleted who I
haven't realized may be causing me problems.

No it does not delete you from their list... but there are steps you
can
take to minimize IM's from them.

Here is how I do it to minimize IM's.

Prior to deleting them (but this can also be done after you've
deleted them
with different instructions below), right click on their name and
choose
Stealth Settings and change them so that you are Invisible to them
permanently. .. although sometimes this setting will change back to
Visible
for some reason. It's a YM glitch on Yahoo servers, not on your
computer so
there's not much you can do about it except re-mark yourself as
Invisible
again. Once you are changed to Invisible, then you can delete them
and also
delete them from your YM address book as well, if you like.

The next time they IM you, they will show up as someone NOT on your
friends
list and then you can click the link to mark them as spam and then
you
should no longer get IM's from them any longer. Each time you do get
an IM
from them, you can look at the Actions Menu, Stealth Settings to
make sure
you are still showing up as Invisible to them but if it has changed,
then
change it back to Invisible again and then mark them as spam again.

However, if you go to chat rooms on a regular basis and mark lots of
bots as
spam, your Ignore List will fill up and then you have to empty it on
a
regular basis so that you Ignore new spam-bots or others again. To
do this,
click on the Main Messenger Menu, choose Preferences, then Ignore
List.
Highlight all of the names you wish to remove from the Ignore List
(I just
highlight them all) and Remove them, then choose Apply and close the
Ignore
List and Preference windows until next time it's needed.

After a while, the person will quit IM'ing you as long as you DO NOT
reply
        to them.

Now.. your next thing that you might want to do is change a setting
that
lets Yahoo show you up as online in all of your group's or other
Yahoo
        "services".

To do this, go back to the Main Messenger Menu, choose Preferences
again and
then the Privacy section and UN-CHECK the "Allow Yahoo web sites to
show
when I am online" and this *should* change you to offline in all of
your
groups so that someone in one of your groups that you might not want
IM's
from, will not be able to see you as online in the group messages or
members
        list section.

Now, all this said, if they are persistent, they can still send you
IM's
even if you are not showing up as online anywhere and then it's just
a
matter of marking yourself as Invisible again, reporting them as
spam again,
blocking them again and hopefully they'll give up after a while.

Can anyone tell me...if I delete someone from my contact/friends

that automatically delete me from their list or can they still see
if I'm
