Currently, the “heartbeat” mechanism is only supported in the async client (
AMRMClientAsyncImpl ). The reason for this seems to be because liveness
monitoring is currently implemented based on periodic (possibly empty)
allocation requests - which may return container allocation responses for
earlier allocation requests. This mechanism only works for the async client
where allocation responses can be queued and is not application to the
synchronous/blocking client.
