David Yan commented on YARN-6048:
---------------------------------
Yes, it's probably related. I wanted to emphasize though, that it actually
exhibits the right behavior after the application has finished running.
> YarnClient API call that is supposed to return containers of a previous
> attempt returns containers of the current application attempt
> --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
>
> Key: YARN-6048
> URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/YARN-6048
> Project: Hadoop YARN
> Issue Type: Bug
> Components: timelineserver, yarn
> Affects Versions: 2.7.3
> Environment: Ubuntu 16.10, Hadoop 2.7.3, Java 1.8
> Reporter: David Yan
>
> I have enabled the timeline server.
> Sample code:
> {code}
> YarnClient yarnClient;
> ...
> List<ContainerReport> containerReports =
> yarnClient.getContainers(somePreviousAttemptId);
> {code}
> YarnClient.getContainers(ApplicationAttemptId) returns the containers of the
> *current* attempt instead of the given attempt. This is true up until the
> application is actually terminated. After the application is terminated, the
> call returns the correct container list.
