[~djp], having policies for that is kind of what I was getting at in YARN-6356.
YARN-6356 suggests adding a separate retain-seconds config for succeeded jobs
vs failed jobs so you could, for example, keep succeed job logs for 1 day
(because you don't really care about them) and failed job logs for 1 week
(because you need time to look at them). But generalizing that to be more
flexible is a good idea.
