Sounds like we won't have time to implement the "full version". In that case,
I think we should do the 2nd faster option (remove the XML format) - it will be
safer from a compatibility perspective if we don't have to worry about the XML
formatting. The downside (being unable to specify an individual timeout per
host) sounds like an uncommon use case. [~djp], what do you think?
