Eric Yang commented on YARN-7935:
---------------------------------

[~mridulm80] The current solution is implying that hostname reference will
resolve to IP address that is resolvable between containers.
Can you list a summary table of what type of network is supported, and how the
hostname to IP mapping are handled? I am concerned that some end user code
will end up invoking InetAddress Java class and attempt to pass that reference
to other containers. Without proper network configuration. This solution is
leaving behind a large amount of questions and none of the answers. It would
be good to show the answers for others to replicate.

> Expose container's hostname to applications running within the docker
> container

> Some applications have a need to bind to the container's hostname (like
> Spark) which is different from the NodeManager's hostname(NM_HOST which is
> available as an env during container launch) when launched through Docker
> runtime. The container's hostname can be exposed to applications via an env
> CONTAINER_HOSTNAME. Another potential candidate is the container's IP but
> this can be addressed in a separate jira.
