Steve Loughran commented on YARN-1143:
--------------------------------------
thinking about this some more, I'd like the names to match that of valid
hostnames. Why? it'd let us implement a service registry that offered a DNS
interface
> Restrict the names that apps and types can have

> Key: YARN-1143
> URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/YARN-1143
> Project: Hadoop YARN
> Issue Type: Improvement
> Affects Versions: 2.1.0-beta
> Reporter: Steve Loughran
> Priority: Minor
>
> YARN-1001 is an example of a RESTy API to the RM's list of apps and app types
> -and it shows that we may want to add some restrictions on the characters
> allowed in an app name or type (or at least forbid some) -before it is too
> late.
> If we don't do that, then tests should verify that you can have apps with
> high-unicode names as well as other troublesome characters
