Sangjin Lee commented on YARN-4183:
-----------------------------------
This is still very much an open-ended discussion. I recognize that trying to
support enabling multiple versions may be pretty tricky and far-reaching. It
would be great if we can pull that off, but if it leads to other negative
consequences, we as a group may decide not to pursue it. For one, I know this
would mean a pretty significant refactoring on the work for YARN-2928 as there
are many places where we assume this is a binary choice (mutually exclusive).
> Enabling generic application history forces every job to get a timeline
> service delegation token

> When enabling just the Generic History Server and not the timeline server,
> the system metrics publisher will not publish the events to the timeline
> store as it checks if the timeline server and system metrics publisher are
> enabled before creating a timeline client.
> To make it work, if the timeline service flag is turned on, it will force
> every yarn application to get a delegation token.
> Instead of checking if timeline service is enabled, we should be checking if
> application history server is enabled.
