I just gave the branch a spin on a real cluster. It is a major step forward, no
doubt!
That said, I think we need to work on a few very important usability related
issues.
Given that there are issues still being debugged on the branch and the
merge-related JIRA is still ongoing, I think we should hold off on the merge
for a little while longer.

If I understand correctly, this is the primary motivation for this proposal for
an earlier UI merge. If so, I proposed offline to folks involved with YTS v2
that we go ahead with YARN-2928 merge to trunk *without* the UI bits. In fact,
we can merge the YARN-2928 UI work (YARN-4097 etc) into this (YARN-3368) branch
and get them out together - obviously a new UI that works seamlessly across
RMs, NMs and Timeline Service is a huge win.
Overall, I think we should put a little more effort so that we can leave a
better first-impression on our users - landing in trunk should be treated as a
first-step for our users to pick this up! Let's not hurry this up for tactical
reasons (YARN-2928).
