Here's a patch that cleans up those silly nested ternary operators. As soon as
we get some consensus that this approach is the right approach, I'll work on
adding tests around the redirect tagging. I agree with [~kasha] that the
current approach is hacky, but I don't see a less hacky approach at the moment
that is not overkill.
