THERE SHOULD BE NO NEGOTIATIONS WITH COUNTER REVOLUTION By: Kaizer Mohau
I think many people believes that there is a possibility for the ANC to win back Terror Lekota and Co. into the ANC. Unfortunately, some of us do not share this perspective – our understanding is that Terror Lekota and his friends are a determined faction that will never reconcile with the historical reality that they lost in Polokwane – PERIOD!. For starters for instance, the Lekota coalition consists of individuals who have been fired by their organisations for one thing or another. These people both as individuals and as a collective are a bunch of bitter and angry people. Now the decision to breakaway from the ANC cannot be treated as a minor issue that started recently, for many of us the question of liquidating the ANC is an issue that has been on the table since 1996 – and manifested itself during the former President Thabo Mbeki's presidential term. In contextualising the politics of this epoch – the SACP defined the ruling elite as the 1996 Class project. It is within this context that we should all agree that we are not dealing here with dedicated cadres of our movement. We are dealing with people who are determined that as long as the current leadership of the ANC remains in office they will never be part of this collective leadership. In as much as we respect and abide by the decision taken by some of our leaders in relation to this matter, to attempt engaging the Lekota faction, I think we should equally maintain our decisiveness in terms of instilling discipline in our cadres. Something that I think we will never achieve if we are to be lenient on the conduct displayed for instance by Terror Lekota. Our movement cannot be intimidated by a clique of individuals who are united only by their ill discipline and deviation from the organisational discipline. Terror Lekota accused the current leadership of the ANC of deviating from the founding principles and policies of the ANC – but Terror Lekota fails dismally to point out as to these deviations – he spoke of the Freedom Charter and particularly the clause that says: "All shall be equal before the law", Terror claims that the current leadership has deviated from this clause by supporting the President of the organisation. Without telling Lekota what he knows, it is important that we remind him that to be equal before the law does not mean we should close our eyes when the constitutional rights of individuals are trampled upon. Equality before the law must be understood within the broader context of democratic values and principles, amongst those is to be treated innocent until proven otherwise by a court of law. Because if we speak of equality before the law - it must be reciprocal, in that the institutions tasked with this responsibility must exercise their power in a manner that manifests this equality in the main. Lekota further lied to the nation when he said the decision to support Cde Jacob was never taken by the constitutional structures of the ANC – In 2005, the ANC held a National General Council at the Pretoria University, and in the NGC the ANC structures resolved to support the President of the ANC – the NGC actually reminded the National Working Committee that it is not a constitutional structure and therefore it was wrong for it to accept a "request" by Cde Jacob Zuma to be released from his organisational duties as the then Deputy President of the ANC. If Lekota is honest he would have just said that he was one of the people who were opposed to this decision not that the decision was never taken. Lekota, in his notorious press briefing branded our President as a "thief" and the entire NEC as dictators – clearly with this, Lekota was showing us that they have already taken a position, a position they will never change, basically this was a declaration of war on our movement. Let me at the risk of sounding ridiculous pose this question, does anyone think that we shall in those negotiations with the Lekotas ask for an item to discuss whether the ANC President is a thief? How is anyone expecting Willie Madisha to reconsider his stance in relation to Lekota and co? As we know that next year we will be going to the polls, the time we are wasting in negotiating with Alfonzo Dhlagamas, Jonas Savimbis, and other counter revolutionaries of this world will have negative impact on our work to ensure that the ANC wins elections. Lekota must just be given to history which as we know will judge him and his friends very brutally. Contrary to the view that our failure to neutralise this coalition through engagement might lead us into not winning the elections, our view is that by expelling Lekota and friends from the ANC will be demonstrating to our people that we are decisive on matters of discipline and respect for the organisation and its principles. Consistent as he is, Lekota will never understand the language spoken by our leaders, the only language Lekota will understand is the language of war. That is what they are expecting and I think it is what they must get. The fact that there are meetings being held in Provinces discussing floor crossing – at least in this context, it is a call on our leadership to intensify its ground work in forging the organisational unity and cohesion – this should start by identifying these individuals who are trying to manipulate the ANC structures into joining the forces of counter revolution, and they must be dealt with like never before. We are aware that even in our provinces, there are cadres of our movement who have since the last NEC been engaging our branches on this matter.
