*YCL REJECTS R55MILLION PAY FOR PSL BIGWIGS!*

*THURSDAY 16 OCTOBER 2008*

The Young Communist League [uFasimba] rejects the reported R55 million pay
for PSL [PSL] bigwigs, namely Dr Irvin Khoza, Kaizer Motaung, Trevor
Phillips et al.

This demonstrates how self accumulation and self-centered interests can
drive an asset of the working class and the poor players out of their hands.
It is the players, the majority of whom are from working class and poor, who
have built the PSL through their sweat and hard labour to be what it is
today.

Regrettably, PSL bigwigs want to accumulate and fill their filthy rich
pockets at the expense of the under-paid and exploited players. We call on
the PSL bigwigs, particularly Dr Khoza to decisively provide leadership on
this huge payout in the interests of rechanneling this money in improving
the conditions of the players and the majority of who are from the poor.

This big payout is a reflection of the accumulation path that was being
fostered by the 1996 class project in all sectors of our society which does
not put people's needs and interests first. It is the mentality of 'dog eat
dog' and crass materialism that the majority of our people must consistently
fight against including soccer players.

PSL positions must not be used for accumulation purposes, but must be a
service to the country and the people of South Africa in developing the
people's game.

As the YCL we will consider engaging our allies, South African Football
Players Union [SAFPU] with an intention of mobilizing players to boycott PSL
matches if this outrageous and nonsensical payout is approved by the PSL
Board.
