Fellow Comrades

In the last days we were suprised by a new phenomenon in our history of Youth
Struggle that COSAS,SASCO and SADTU must be mum about the political issues in
schools.

Maybe, let's start on the critical existence of a school and what are aims of
educating???

Firstly; We have our schools to nurture learners in their totality in their
becoming, including their political shaping. Why is it foreign now in 2009 to
raise red cards for our revolutionary organizations to express their class
consciousness on our institutions.

Members of ANCYL,YCL,SACP,COSATU and ANC will know that Thursdays during the
"Dark days" of Apartheid Regime was dedicated to School Debates.Amongst the
topical issues under discussion were around the future South Africa we look
forward to have;Poems such as Africa My Beginning etc.

Why do we allow now tendencies of Apathy fertilization in the minds of our
youth in the name of promoting good education. The Freierian philosophy teaches
us that Education can be used to oppress or liberate.Young people should
continue to shape the future they want by developing their curiosity for
national issues.

It is indeed improper to conduct such in a manner that does not symbolize
civilized citizenry.

The Teacher-Learner contradictions will remain with us as long as we regard
Learners and Students as receivers of knowledge than active authors of their
own becoming.Maybe;the noise is inculcated by people who view History studying
as a waste of brains and time.

Our Educators,Pedagogues and Androgogues must not now shy away to table
Societal Debates,Contemporary Issues in the political terrain for only
politicians as it will defeat the same ideals educators such as Matthew Goniwe
and the Youth of 1976 stood for.

COSAS,SASCO and SADTU has a revolutionary task to learn and teach each other
about what happened in the past, the present and map the future.

Secondly; It is naive to narrow Learners and Students to
Learn,Learn,Learn,Study,Study,Pass,Pass and Go attitude without developing
their tools of analyses about what is happening around them.
We must relaim the debates in our schools,Colleges,FET's,Universities as sites
of production of Intellectuals to breathe new and different ideas to shape our
lifetime.

Our institutions will never be neutral and depolitisized.

The festival for youth and educator activism will continue to flourish and
enrich our history and heritage.

It is not yet Uhuru!!!!!
