*Before Shilowa can lead us, he must look after his offspring’s first!*

Frederick Engels once wrote ‘that mankind must first of all eat, drink, have
shelter and clothing, before it can pursue politics, science, art, religion,
etc’. These words cannot be truer than today, But Engels forget to add that
men must also look after his offspring’s and family before pursuing
politics.

The recent public statements by the ANC YL to assist Marvin Shilowa, the
offspring of former Gauteng Premier and ANC renegade Mbhazima Shilowa bears
testimony to this fact that for Shilowa to pursue politics, and position
himself as a genuine and true representative of our people he must look
after his offspring by providing education, shelter, clothing and food.

They say the greatest investment any country can make is educating its youth
for the betterment and prosperity of its country. Consider how many
graduates Shilowa could have financed with the R40 billion spent on
luxurious Gautrain and which his child could have benefited immensely to
pursue his academic studies.

I am failing to understand Shilowa’s leadership credibility and parental
responsibilities, since he has good taste for expensive wines, clothes and
cigars, when his child cannot go to varsity. This shows how his leadership
qualities are bankrupt and immoral. We cannot allow people who are failing
to provide leadership in their own families and children , and want to
mislead us by projecting themselves as true leaders who can lead the South
African society.

This means therefore that Shilowa and COPE cannot be entrusted with the
responsibility of leading our country and society. Shilowa’s parental
responsibilities are a broader reflection of what kind of leadership do we
have in COPE. It is a leadership that is obsessed with power at the expenses
of the needs and demands of our people as informed by the political economy
of our country. We should applaud the gesture of the ANC YL of making sure
that the vast majority of South Africa’s youth have access to tertiary
education including Shilowa’s children. This why we are making a clarion
call to youth to vote ANC en masse because of the following fundamental
reasons;

·         For decent work and building of co-operatives;

·         For free, compulsory and quality education for all;

·         For health for all;

·         To defeat crime;

These are the most urgent tasks that will be advanced by ANC President Jacob
Zuma’s administration for the next five years. We believe that the majority
of South Africa’s youth including Shilowa’s offspring will benefit immensely
from this political programme of the ANC as part of improving the lives of
South Africa’s youth for the better. A sober young person as we approach the
polls will vote for the ANC, and not a church of feeble minds; power
mongers; gossipers who have hired a Bishop because there can’t also lead the
very same organisation they have started.
