*YCL statement on media reports that NPA will withdraw charges against ANC
President Jacob Zuma*

The Young Communist League of South Africa [uFasimba] notes today’s media
reports that the National Prosecuting Authority [NPA] is considering
withdrawing charges against the ANC President Cde Jacob Zuma.

As the YCLSA, we have consistently said that the continued persecution of
ANC President Zuma by the NPA is not in the best interest of our democratic
dispensation and the rule of law. The dropping of the charges by the NPA
will restore its tainted image and credibility. This will further restore
public confidence in the NPA and the overall judiciary system of our
country.

We call on opposition parties to desist from interfering using an evil hand
on this matter for cheap points scoring electioneering purposes, but should
allow the process to unfold as part of finding a lasting solution to matters
related to the ANC President Zuma.

These latest media reports have vindicated the YCL and its allies that all
along the NPA did not have a case against ANC President Zuma. The NPA were
used to sour divisions in the ANC led Alliance and create a political
instability in the country in the event of ANC President Zuma is prosecuted
and thrown behind bars.

The dropping of charges by the NPA will bury the politics of abuse of state
organs by powerful individuals for narrow and factional battles in the body
politics of our country. We reaffirm our position that the persecution of
ANC President Zuma using the organs of class rule, the judiciary is an
attack on the working class and the poor youth of this country. As the YCLSA
we will await the official pronouncement by the NPA on this matter.
