Yho! its bad here comrades and the reasons for all this is known by
everyone, at least that brigs hope for collective action for corrective
measures, but at the same time leadership will need to be given from
the SG office in order to achieve some of the suggestions well thought
by Cde Morgan. One must remember the P.congress that led to the formation
of now called COPE, and i am optimistic that those who left done that
will be coming back home. on a lighter note: I like your arrangement of
tried and tested leaders below... and i guarantee you if we had such, we
would've been speaking another language of victory.

Comrades,

Western Cape has always been highly contested terrain. We have never had
an overwhelming majority on this part of the country.

We need to ask ourselves why? Do we have a solid leadership that
understands the nature of contentious issues costing us control of this
province? Are ANC members readily active or become visible during a
contest for leadership positions and elections list process? Do they
attend to daily problems faced by people in respective areas? Or, do
they only know about some of these problems when elections are nearer?

The response to all of these questions begins to suggest a process which
will inform our political assessment of the Western Cape as a whole. We
had difficulty winning KZN however comrades over there did a thorough
analysis of their weaknesses and strengths to get us where we are today.

Perhaps, comrades in the Western Cape need to import the services of KZN
leadership to salvage the situation and frustrate the DA's party time.
The option of rotational deployment of dedicated cadres from other
effective provinces may also be explored to assist in this regard. We
need make preparations now to do well in the municipal elections
otherwise the DA will entrech its hegemony and boasts about its
popularity without contest in the Western Cape.

A strategic plan of action needs to be devised with the structures to
work together with communities so that the source of hostility towards
the ANC is identified and dealt with accordingly. It shouldn't be a
matter of engaging in activities that are elections orientated but
programme related in line with the activities of the organisation. ANC
and alliance campaigns and programmes must be jointly co-ordinated at
both provincial and national levels to have maximum visibility in the
Western Cape. People must be conscientise about the relevance of our
movement in the broader struggle to achieve a better life for all.

To achieve, we will need tried and tested activists of the calibre of
Tony Ehrenreich, Chris Nissen, Lynne Browne, et al, to be at the fore
front of a process to win over Western Cape from hardliners such as DA.
Hard work is what we need and this is my little input based on the
observation of our past performance in this province.

I remain,
Morgan Phaahla

Could we have really lost the Western Cape?

Kind Regards,

The demon lies in the fact that, naturally and understandably, the
historical
beneficiaries of colonialism and apartheid, who constitute a national
minority,
aspire both for genuine national reconciliation and minimal change with
regard
to their inherited and especially privileged socio-political-economic
position.
