Fellow Comrades
The past days has been quite fresh in our country's landscape with the
appointment of the new Ministers of both Basic Education and Higher Education
and Training.While the news are still fresh with us,some developments in our
Schools, Further Education and Training (FET's) and Universtities eruption of
disruption are key challenges the new ministry will have to navigate with in
the interim.
What has gone wrong so soon???Is it because Learners/Students have
re-confirgured their roles and space after the 22nd April victory and/or Our
ANC Manifesto have created that curiosity for engagement of issues that have
being burning and/or being put in abeyance by the powers that be??
Obviously Management have to answer!!!
The role of management in the current conjuncture in critical as we straddle to
find our compass as part of the ANC Top priority in the next five
years;Education.We are forever saying Councils are incomplete without
learners/students representatves but have that worked in our favour?The answer
is a big NO! Why?Who has made that happen? For what reasons and/or motives? Who
benefitted in this impasse?
My assertion;of course the majority perspective is that student activism should
be revitalized to enhance the implementation of the 22nd expectations.But we
have witnessed the kind of reporting that is offered to all these challenges as
an agenda to suggest that these challenges are new with the new
Administration.Management of these Institutions have either made the issues to
evaporate with times when students raise them and/or have being buying time
hoping these challenges will solve themselves.We therefore need True Leadership
in all these institutions to reverse the backlog amongst others;
* Poor Performance by Managers
* Lack of Progressive Students Liasson Officers and/or Dean of Students
* Poor maintenance of infrasrtucture which make students to wash with
cold water
* Lack of enough pool of student finance support ad/or cut of budgets
for student support
* Lecturers/Educator threats on job security with many contracted and
others
* Students Representative Councils being disallowed utilization of
resources
We made an honest appeal to all student progressive formations to provide
leadership and engage as Polokwane has opened space for that and of course with
our leaders deployed to lead education transformation in the country.We do
support our ministry as they have started to be on top of all avenues and
achieve "Education for All" in South Africa.
It is not yet Uhuru!!!
