I dont think against soapies is a struggle worth pursuing.The article is nice to read but i dont think it advances the Socialist Agenda.Should we be engaged in a struggle of removing all views from society that we dont agree with?.Are we not supposed to educate,mobilise and organise young people to join our struggle for socialism?Is this the best form of mobilising them?
I think the article will only serve to push away young people from the YCL and Socialism because you are giving them the wrong picture what Socialism is all about.We have a huge battle to deal with propaganda against Communism and Socialism and i think your article just feeds into that propaganda. We must win the battle of ideas by presenting our ideas and selling them to young people.Unless comrade Castro you want us to ban the internet,burn and ban books and shut down newspapers that are against ideology.if we start with soapies where do we stop?Telling young people that soapies they love is a capitalist agenda is not helpfull but scary to a young person who does not know Marx.A negaitive picture of Marxism is already created because you claim "Marxism teaches us that soapies are programmes created for the elites for their own enjoyment and amusement.". you have done a diservice to the freedom charter because any young person who has not read the freedom charter will think its against soapies.freedom charter wants build to a society where all people black and white will have freedom to enjoy all forms of entertainment anytime,anywhere and with whover they want to.freedom want to build a society where there is freedom to watch soapies if you choose to!
