Why doesn't the SACP have a President? The SACP has a Chairperson. The Party Chairperson chairs the meetings of the CC, Politburo and Congress.
A Chairperson and a President are different names for the same thing. But in different organisations the emphasis differs as between Chairperson/President and Secretary. In the Party, precedence leans to the Secretary's side, whereas in the ANC it goes the other way, towards the Chairperson or President. In the SACP, at all levels, the Secretary does more work. The next installment of the Communist University [CU704] will deal with the SACP Constitution. Among other things, our Constitution says: "The General Secretary shall be the leading National Office Bearer of the SACP and a full-time official under conditions of service determined by the CC."
