>>> Stanley Gaba 2009/08/13 03:26 PM >>> I had hoped that comrades will raise issues, but it seems that Comrade Zat has touched the raw nerved. I cannot agree more with you on this one. Yesterday, as we were playing Serbia, I listened attentively to the song and observed the behaviour of the spectators. One conclusion can be drawn: is that this so-called national anthem is not a national anthem but just another song. It needs revision and urgently for that matter. Firstly at most it plays up to about 5 minutes the longest ever national anthem. No wonder it was half played in the ConCaf. Remember that the national anthem invokes and rallies every one to a particular cause, but ours de-mobilizes people especially during sports games. Secondly, the lyrics do not sing to the harmony and tune. The Enoch Sontonga's song is the cry of the African child to the Mveliqangi, Qamada and Tlatlamatsholo to preserve our nation. It is cry of an African child to Almighty to strengthen our society against the evils of the apartheid junta. Yet the other version is a different call altogether. It becomes apparent the fusion of the two songs will invoke different emotions to the two nation. Did I hear correctly when the then President Thabo Mbeki talking about the two nation thesis/theory. this is a perfect example of it. Quite frankly, Comrade Zat cannot be right more that this, we need a revision of this. That is why in rugby matches will always find spectators that are still disagreeable to the main cause. This "Die Stem" means something different to them than to us. Hayi, IQabane liphethe. Mayiguqulwe lento. Mayitshintshwe madoda! >>> Zat Makaba 7/24/2009 11:14 AM >>> Every time I hear the so called national anthem I just get sick. It's sickening ! It sickens me to the core ! For how long will we stoop so low to allow Enoch Sontonga's great song to be likened to the apartheid song of the Botha - Malan junta ? It is not a unifying song as we are made to believe because it serves two nations - one black and one white. That combined song does not reflect what we purport to be - ONE NATION. Instead it continues to remind us of how we allowed Sontonga's creativity to be compromised and subdued. I cannot just imagine how many of our heroes and heroines are turning in their graves. This compromise is killing me ! >>> Mzukisi Ronyuza 7/24/2009 9:57 AM >>> Comrades, When I started all it was all about "LUNCH" I hope you will all understand. Not lunch but LUNCH.
